GM TIS Reprogramming
Servicingnewer, increasingly complicated vehicles has put independent repairshops at a disadvantage when compared to auto dealerships that haveaccess to the latest service tools and knowledge databases. Accuratelydiagnosing and repairing many of these newer vehicles used to requirefull access to expensive factory service tools.
Atthe center of this problem lies the ability to reprogram the computersinside newer automobiles. Diagnosing and repairing vehicles oftenrequires reprogramming (reflashing) the vehicle with the latest updatesavailable from the factory. After a vehicle is assembled and sold at anew car dealership, the automaker's engineering groups often fix commonproblems found in the field by releasing a new reflash. The new flash isnot a recall, and therefore most vehicles on the road will not get theupdate unless they are brought in to the dealership for servicing. Thesere-flashes could fix transmission shifting problems, hesitation, roughidle, drivability, check engine lights, emissions quality, poorperformance, or any other of a number of common problems. Without thereflashing capabilities, independent repair shops may spend time andmoney trying to repair an issue with hard parts that cannot be repairedwithout a calibration flash update.
Beforethe Mongoose GM was available, a shop had to invest in a Tech2 or othercostly reprogramming system to update calibrations in GM vehicles.Mongoose GM is a great alternative for independent repair shops thatwant to reprogram calibrations in most GM vehicles without purchasingexpensive, proprietary tools. The Mongoose GM is compatible with GM'sTIS reprogramming software that normally is used with the Tech2.
